Lisa Edelstein is an American actress and playwright, best known for her role as Dr. Lisa Cuddy on the television series "House." She was born on May 21, 1966, in a Jewish family in Boston, Massachusetts. Her father, Alvin, is a pediatrician at Chilton Memorial Hospital in New Jersey.

At the age of 18, Lisa moved to New York to study theater arts at the School of Visual Arts of New York University. One of her early roles was in the musical "Positive Me," which focused on the fight against AIDS. She also appeared on television screens in the cable show "Awake on the Wild Side."

Lisa's notable roles include playing a call girl on "The West Wing," David Conrad's sister on "Relativity," James LeGros' transgender friend on "Ally McBeal," and an Orthodox Jewish woman on "Family Law." She has also been seen in popular films such as "What Women Want" with Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt, "As Good as It Gets" with Jack Nicholson, "Daddy Day Care" with Eddie Murphy, and "Keeping the Faith" with Ben Stiller and Edward Norton.

In 2004, Lisa was cast as Dr. Lisa Cuddy, the Chief of Medicine at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, in the television series "House." She currently resides in a century-old house in Los Angeles, where she lives with her cat and three adopted dogs. Lisa is a vegetarian and practices yoga. In her free time, she enjoys writing, composing music, and painting.
