Do you remember those sleepless nights filled with stacks of books, research papers, deadline pressure, and nerve-wracking concern over how to get scoops beyond your peers? We all do. Itâs not about creating a shortcut, but itâs about optimizing your learning experience and outcomes. Letâs explore more!
What Is a Homework Assignment?
A homework assignment is a task assigned by educators as an extension of classroom work typically intended for students to complete outside of class. Written exercises, reading and comprehension activities, research projects, and problem-solving exercises are a few examples of homework varieties.
However, the primary goal remains the same: to develop the learnerâs understanding of a specific topic or subject, enhance their skills, complement their learning, and prepare them for subsequent class sessions.
Why Use a Homework Assignment Generator?
A homework assignment generator plays a crucial role in not only simplifying studentsâ academic life but also enhancing their learning journey. Here are a few reasons:
- Efficient Time Management: Unlike students, an AI-powered generator doesnât procrastinate. It helps quickly provide homework outlines, ideas, and solutions, leaving you plenty of time for other tasks.
- Quality Content: Drawing from a vast database of resources, this generator assures top-notch content. It furnishes well-researched and factually correct information, ensuring your assignment stands out.
- Ease of Use: No complex instructions. Just input your assignment topic, and behold the AI unfolds its magic, rendering high-quality content almost instantly.
- Learning Aid: This tool should not replace learning but aid it. It brings clarity by simplifying complex topics, making them more comprehensive and easier to grasp.
In conclusion, the Homework Assignment generator aims to transform your academic life. Its primary objective is not to eliminate homework but to streamline it, making it less stressful and more rewarding. It is designed to support, not replace, the traditional teaching-learning method, highlighting what is essential for success: understanding, skill enhancement, and knowledge application. Embrace this new era of learning where technology complements traditional education, and step into the future of academic excellence.

Designing Assignments and Activities with ChatGPT and Generative AI in Mind
Generative AI, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Gemini, can help engage students in learning and creativity. Essentially, generative AI tools create content on their own without human intervention. They can be useful for writing text, generating ideas, creating images, writing and editing code, and more.
By designing assignments that incorporate generative AI technology, instructors can provide students with opportunities to explore, create, and problem-solve. However, as an instructor, you may also want to create assignments that challenge students to demonstrate their own knowledge and skills without relying heavily on AI-generated content. In this article, we will review different assignment ideas and strategies to create prompts and assignment ideas in different disciplines.
If you are interested in more general information about AI Tools and using them in your academic work, visit the Using ChatGPT and AI for Efficient Teaching and Work article. These tools will be shared in the Designing Assignments workshop.

Intelligent.com conducted a poll of more than 1,000 current college students in May 2023 regarding their use of ChatGPT for coursework. 30% of students used ChatGPT for coursework during the 2022/2023 academic year, and of that group, 46% utilized it frequently. The Digital Education Council just did a survey finding that 86% of students state they use AI in their studies and 54% use it at least weekly. Generative AI is rapidly advancing and becoming more prevalent in education, work, and our daily lives. As an educator, it’s a good idea to help students be aware of the ethical considerations surrounding the use of generative AI.
- Consider adding an acceptable use statement in your syllabus. Here are some guidelines and examples.
- How do you think generative AI can be applied to the course assignments in this class?
- Can you share any specific examples of generative AI being used in educational settings?
- How can we ensure that AI tools are used in a way that promotes skill development in our course?
- After reviewing the assignment directions and grading information, what would be some helpful uses of AI tools that will still allow you to learn the content and demonstrate your learning?
- Based on various surveys and instructor experiences, not all students believe it is ethical to use AI on assignments. Be sure to include a discussion/policy about how AI can or cannot be used in group work.
There is no standard for determining if AI use by students qualifies as plagiarism or cheating . There is also no consistent standard for citing or crediting work using an AI tool. It may be useful to check with your professional organizations and journals and share any of their policies with students. Currently, AI is part of retail and other business careers, education in personalized learning, systems that make recommendations, human resources decisions, healthcare, agriculture, gaming, marketing, finance, and more .

No True Detection of AI is Possible
There is no “fool-proof” way to detect AI use in student projects, and there have been many stories published about false positives and negatives using various AI detectors.
At NC State University, we provide access to Turnitin, but we do not pay for access to the AI detector due to false positives being reported at universities across the country. Please review the academic integrity guidance and policies from the Office of Student Conduct.
AI detection and workaround programs are regularly created and released. Here are some common tools and videos that guide students and content creators on how to avoid AI detection.
- Writer AI Content Detector ( Disclaimer )

There are also some red flags you can look for in reviewing student work. It’s helpful (albeit difficult in large classes) if you know your students writing and can determine if an assignment does not fit their typical way or level of writing. What to look for:
- A factual error or made-up citation
- Missing required assignment data sources or article text
- “Too perfect” in terms of grammar and usage
- Overly formal, detached, or impersonal style/tone
- Predictable formations – -like a five-paragraph essay from middle school language arts
- The writing too directly and repetitively parallels the assignment directions
Note: Students who are good at prompt writing and provide context, follow-up questions, a voice for the AI, etc., may not produce writing that exhibits these flaws. You may also want to consider having a conversation with a student about their work and topic if you have concerns. ChatGPT-4o (a paid option) is significantly better at avoiding these style issues.
Designing Assignments to Limit AI Usage
There are ways to design assignments that can make generative AI use more difficult for students. However, as tools become more sophisticated, assignment revisions may not be enough to truly prevent students from using AI; however, these strategies are a good start.
Ask ChatGPT
Ask ChatGPT or another AI generator to provide assignment examples in your field that would be difficult for it to complete. Include context, specific learning outcomes, and more to get a more specific list of suggestions. Here are examples from ChatGPT , Perplexity and Google Gemini . Prompt Example:
- You are a professor for an introductory course in {subject area} at the college level. You are trying to design assignments that would be tricky for students to use AI to complete. What are some assignment ideas and topics within the field that would be difficult for you or another Generative AI tool to complete successfully?
- You are a professor for a college statistics course. Students are expected to recognize and be able to explain the central role of variability in the field of statistics. They also must be able to find variability when interpreting data. What are some course assignments that students can complete to show they have met these objectives and that are difficult for ChatGPT to complete? Explain how the assignment will help students demonstrate their understanding and what makes it complicated for a generative AI tool like ChatGPT. See the results here!
You can also copy work into an AI Generator and ask it “Did you write this?” to get some interesting responses.
Google Version History
Require that students submit written work using Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, etc., and use version history to validate that the writing and input occurred over time vs. in large chunks suggesting that students may have copied and pasted from another source like ChatGPT. Students have also used time stamps in Google Docs version history to exonerate themselves from false positives picked up by AI detectors.
Incorporate Student Discussion and Collaboration
In-person student discussions referencing past class activities, readings done outside of class, previous lectures, and so on can be integrated into your course. Examples:
- Ask students in a chemistry course to compare and contrast two models they read about for homework or that you shared in a recorded lecture. Ask students to come up with examples in class (or on a discussion board) with a partner based on the reading assignment.
- Use Perusall and set the auto-grading (ai-assisted) feature to highly weight active engagement time and getting responses. Manually grade and let students know that credit comes from their in-text conversations with each other.
Reflective Assignments
AI tools are not truly reflective and aren’t likely (even fictionally) to make good connections between course content and personal experience or learnings. Examples:
- Write a reflection on a time when you struggled with a {subject area} concept. What was the concept? How did you eventually understand it? What advice would you give to other students who are struggling with the same concept?
- Compare and contrast two different ways of solving a problem {in your content area}. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each method? When would you use one method over the other?
Real-World & Localized Connections in Assignments
Some AI tools are not connected to the internet and will not have an understanding of local references or the most recent sources. Others may not be able to draw connections that make sense to humans who understand those “smaller” contexts. For example, we asked ChatGPT 4o to write a story for a blog about Raleigh restaurants and include favorites of NC State Students and how social media marketing campaigns have influenced the success of these restaurants. In the response, ChatGPT included only one restaurant on Hillsborough Street and one within walking distance of campus.
A Localized Prompt example:
- Analyze the impact of a recent policy change {content-specific} or ask students to choose a policy change that has been implemented in the last year. Research the policy change and its implications for the economy. Write a report that includes the expected impact, strengths and weaknesses of the change, and recommendations for how the policy change could be improved.
Take Assignments through a Process
Asking students to complete an assignment with a process including steps like brainstorming, mapping, drafting, peer review, an interview, and a final product can make it difficult for them to find successful ways to use AI. It may be able to help students with sections of the assignment but not the entire product or process. You can also ask students process-oriented questions along the way. You can also include ambiguous questions or those that require positions on controversial topics. Examples:
- Compare your answers to your team’s answers. Discuss any differences.
- Explain the process you followed to arrive at your conclusion.
- Analyze the ethical implications of each step in the process and propose alternatives if necessary.
- Explain the long-term consequences of implementing this process and how they might evolve over time.
- Discuss the role of creativity and innovation in…
- Identify potential biases, assumptions, and problems that could arise and suggest methods to mitigate them.
Retrieval Practice Activities
Retrieval practice activities allow students to practice recalling information from class activities, lectures, readings, and so on. If specific to course content, AI would not be helpful in these activities (particularly if completed in person). More on retrieval practice .
Multi-Step with a Creative Component
Create projects in which students demonstrate their learning. Essentially find ways to ask them to take what they’ve learned, organize it, and make something with it. Video is also still difficult for AI tools to create (or at least for free or inexpensive AI tools) Examples:
- Short story writing in which students must use content information, specific vocabulary, and maybe even primary sources to craft a story.
- Ask students to create a comic strip based on a concept, vocabulary, a reading, etc.
- Students creating a public service announcement video to demonstrate learning
Use Visuals in Assessments or Questions Starters
It is more difficult to use a generative AI tool to analyze and respond to images and videos. Consider adding these modalities into your questioning strategies.
Hybrid/Blended Instruction or Flipping
You may also want to consider using hybrid/blended or flipped formats for your course to limit AI use. In this model, students would learn content outside of class time and then use class time to apply or be assessed on what they learned.

Assessment Hack/Trick
Instructors have shared the “Trojan Horse” method to “catch” students who copy-paste assignment directions into AI generators and then copy/paste responses into their essays or other assignment submissions. To the authors of this article, working to be the “AI Police” and catch students feels outside of the role of an instructor, but this article explains the method.
Designing Assignments to Work with AI
AI tools are likely to be used by students in future careers and likely in their coursework, so one approach is to incorporate the tools directly and intentionally into assignments and activities.
“Am I going to teach students to write or to write with AI tools like ChatGPT? Derek Bruff
Consider these assignment reflection questions from Derek Bruff’s article “Assignment Makeovers in the AI Age.”
- Why does this assignment make sense for this course?
- What are the specific learning objectives for this assignment?
- How might students use AI tools while working on this assignment?
- How might AI undercut the goals of this assignment? How could you mitigate this?
- How might AI enhance the assignment? Where would students need help figuring that out?
- Focus on the process. How could you make the assignment more meaningful for students or support them more in the work?
Consider these ideas for assignments that can work with AI tools:
- Ask an AI to write an essay/write code/draw an image/create a script/design an experiment/draft a press release/propose a new business/analyze data
- Evaluate the results. Make a list of errors or how this result could have been better.
- Adjust your prompt to improve the output.
- Which result is best and why? What was your strategy to improve the prompt?
- Take the best output and make it even better with human editing. (Track changes)
- Describe for an employer what value you added to this process.
- Use AI to generate multiple explanations for a concept and ask students to critique the AI-generated explanations. Ask them to cite/use specific course readings, notes from lectures, etc., in their critiques.
- Save time in reviewing student writing by asking them or requiring them first to get an AI review of their work, then reflect on the review, make edits, and then submit their final work.
- Include an AI tool in a “Think-Pair-Share” activity in class. Students pair with another person in class and then with an AI tool.
- Ask students to predict what responses they will get from AI to specific course content questions, problem sets, etc.
- Provide several responses from AI and ask students to make a better or different product using those drafts/responses. They might make a mind map from a narrative created by AI and then find three additional sources to support or expand on different sections of the mind map.
- Assign a peer teaching project in which students will teach a concept or review a concept for their peers. Encourage students to get help from AI with the content and in designing a short activity that can be done as part of the peer teaching. Make students responsible for answering questions from peers and instructors. Use any gaps to adjust your own teaching.
- Ask students to debate an AI tool — students on one side and ChatGPT on the other.
- Ask students to find evidence for an AI-created “main points” of an article. First, copy and paste an article into ChatGPT (or a link to an article into Bing or Bard) and ask the tool to summarize the key points of the article. Then provide that to students and ask them to find quotes or details that expand on each point.

Back to School: Using AI to Create Writing Assignments Students Actually Want to Do
You may even have fun grading them.
Getting students excited about the work you have to grade later can be one of the more frustrating things about teaching , but when an assignment hits the right chord, it has the potential to inspire and impact not just the classroom, but the whole school and beyond.
Reconciling the curriculum and assignments with standards and learning objectives sometimes established out of a teacher's control can really sap the creative side of your brain.
Here's how artificial intelligence can help broaden your horizons when trying to create assignments that make a lasting impression and keep your classroom excited about learning. (And for more AI tips for the back-to-school season, check out CNET's guides on how to use AI to keep up with important dates and how to use Microsoft Copilot to create notes on pretty much anything.)
Since there will need to be a fair bit of refinement to create an assignment that is both fun to complete for students and fun to review and grade for educators, I've used ChatGPT , the AI chatbot that uses machine learning and large language models to generate conversational style answers to search queries, so that I could go back and forth brainstorming ideas.
Maintaining teacher and student sanity
My area of study is media and communications, so for this example I'm putting together an assignment on media literacy , or the ability to think and interact critically with everything from TikTok content to front-page news.
The goal is to create an assignment that's fun, collaborative and impactful for college students who interact heavily with digital media but might not be questioning what they're consuming.
The secondary goal was to create an assignment I won't hate myself for creating when it comes time to grade it.
On my first attempt, ChatGPT gave me a fully built-out assignment according to specific learning objectives around media literacy for college-level students, but it was about as fun as you'd think writing a 500-word essay on media literacy might be -- not fun at all.
Refine for fun, collaboration and focus
Since this assignment is in part about getting students to actually interact with media online in a way that's more impactful than just lurking or liking from the digital shadows, I refined the prompt to include using the student body in the assignment somehow and requested less emphasis on written analysis that will ultimately only be seen and evaluated by the teacher.
Here's what it came back with:
I was actually impressed -- not only did ChatGPT have students interacting with and analyzing media, but it also created a multi-layered assignment that gave students the opportunity to see firsthand the impact media literacy can make on a community as well as an individual.
This assignment would also be a darn sight more enjoyable to grade than 30 to 50 500-word analytical essays about whether the source of a Brat summer post on TikTok can be trusted.
Finally, ChatGPT offered submission requirements (like linking to the social media content used in completing the assignment and screenshots of the online interactions) and grading criteria for the assignment and even some examples of how the assignment might be executed.
Its example in particular about analyzing the role of political memes was timely and felt like a fresh take on an evolving reality of campaign media.
I personally would love to see videos from students collaborating on a discussion with their peers about their perception of Kamala HQ 's content and the presence of former President Donald Trump across social media.
And who knows -- maybe the students might actually enjoy it too.

The 5 Best Homework Help Websites (Free and Paid!)
Other High School , General Education
Listen: we know homework isnât fun, but it is a good way to reinforce the ideas and concepts youâve learned in class. But what if youâre really struggling with your homework assignments?
If youâve looked online for a little extra help with your take-home assignments, youâve probably stumbled across websites claiming to provide the homework help and answers students need to succeed . But can homework help sites really make a difference? And if so, which are the best homework help websites you can use?
Below, we answer these questions and more about homework help websitesâfree and paid. Weâll go over:
- The basics of homework help websites
- The cost of homework help websites
- The five best homework websites out there
- The pros and cons of using these websites for homework help
- The line between âlearningâ and âcheatingâ when using online homework help
- Tips for getting the most out of a homework help website
So letâs get started!
The Basics About Homework Help WebsitesâFree and Paid
Homework help websites are designed to help you complete your homework assignments, plain and simple.
What Makes a Homework Help Site Worth Using
Most of the best sites allow users to ask questions and then provide an answer (or multiple possible answers) and explanation in seconds. In some instances, you can even send a photo of a particular assignment or problem instead of typing the whole thing out!
Homework help sites also offer more than just help answering homework questions. Common services provided are Q&A with experts, educational videos, lectures, practice tests and quizzes, learning modules, math solving tools, and proofreading help. Homework help sites can also provide textbook solutions (i.e. answers to problems in tons of different textbooks your school might be using), one-on-one tutoring, and peer-to-peer platforms that allow you to discuss subjects youâre learning about with your fellow students.
And best of all, nearly all of them offer their services 24/7, including tutoring!
What You Should Should Look Out For
When it comes to homework help, there are lotsâand we mean lots âof scam sites out there willing to prey on desperate students. Before you sign up for any service, make sure you read reviews to ensure youâre working with a legitimate company.
A word to the wise: the more a company advertises help that veers into the territory of cheating, the more likely it is to be a scam. The best homework help websites are going to help you learn the concepts youâll need to successfully complete your homework on your own. (Weâll go over the difference between âhomework helpâ and âcheatingâ a little later!)
You don't need a golden piggy bank to use homework help websites. Some provide low or no cost help for students like you!
How Expensive Are the Best Homework Help Websites?
First of all, just because a homework help site costs money doesnât mean itâs a good service. Likewise, just because a homework help website is free doesnât mean the help isnât high quality. To find the best websites, you have to take a close look at the quality and types of information they provide!
When it comes to paid homework help services, the prices vary pretty widely depending on the amount of services you want to subscribe to. Subscriptions can cost anywhere from $2 to $150 dollars per month, with the most expensive services offering several hours of one-on-one tutoring with a subject expert per month.
The 5 Best Homework Help Websites
So, what is the best homework help website you can use? The answer is that it depends on what you need help with.
The best homework help websites are the ones that are reliable and help you learn the material. They donât just provide answers to homework questionsâthey actually help you learn the material.
Thatâs why weâve broken down our favorite websites into categories based on who theyâre best for . For instance, the best website for people struggling with math might not work for someone who needs a little extra help with science, and vice versa.
Keep reading to find the best homework help website for you!
Best Free Homework Help Site: Khan Academy
- Price: Free!
- Best for: Practicing tough material
Not only is Khan Academy free, but itâs full of information and can be personalized to suit your needs. When you set up your account , you choose which courses you need to study, and Khan Academy sets up a personal dashboard of instructional videos, practice exercises, and quizzes âwith both correct and incorrect answer explanationsâso you can learn at your own pace.
As an added bonus, it covers more course topics than many other homework help sites, including several AP classes.
Runner Up: Brainly.com offers a free service that allows you to type in questions and get answers and explanations from experts. The downside is that youâre limited to two answers per question and have to watch ads.
Best Paid Homework Help Site: Chegg
- Price: $14.95 to $19.95 per month
- Best for: 24/7 homework assistance
This service has three main parts . The first is Chegg Study, which includes textbook solutions, Q&A with subject experts, flashcards, video explanations, a math solver, and writing help. The resources are thorough, and reviewers state that Chegg answers homework questions quickly and accurately no matter when you submit them.
Chegg also offers textbook rentals for students who need access to textbooks outside of their classroom. Finally, Chegg offers Internship and Career Advice for students who are preparing to graduate and may need a little extra help with the transition out of high school.
Another great feature Chegg provides is a selection of free articles geared towards helping with general life skills, like coping with stress and saving money. Cheggâs learning modules are comprehensive, and they feature solutions to the problems in tons of different textbooks in a wide variety of subjects.
Runner Up: Bartleby offers basically the same services as Chegg for $14.99 per month. The reason it didnât rank as the best is based on customer reviews that say user questions arenât answered quite as quickly on this site as on Chegg. Otherwise, this is also a solid choice!
Best Site for Math Homework Help: Photomath
- Price: Free (or $59.99 per year for premium services)
- Best for: Explaining solutions to math problems
This site allows you to t ake a picture of a math problem, and instantly pulls up a step-by-step solution, as well as a detailed explanation of the concept. Photomath also includes animated videos that break down mathematical concepts to help you better understand and remember them.
The basic service is free, but for an additional fee you can get extra study tools and learn additional strategies for solving common math problems.
Runner Up: KhanAcademy offers in-depth tutorials that cover complex math topics for free, but you wonât get the same tailored help (and answers!) that Photomath offers.
Best Site for English Homework Help: Princeton Review Academic Tutoring
- Price: $40 to $153 per month, depending on how many hours of tutoring you want
- Best for: Comprehensive and personalized reading and writing help
While sites like Grammarly and Sparknotes help you by either proofreading what you write via an algorithm or providing book summaries, Princeton Reviewâs tutors provide in-depth help with vocabulary, literature, essay writing and development, proofreading, and reading comprehension. And unlike other services, youâll have the chance to work with a real person to get help.
The best part is that you can get on-demand English (and ESL) tutoring from experts 24/7. That means you can get help whenever you need it, even if youâre pulling an all-nighter!
This is by far the most expensive homework site on this list, so youâll need to really think about what you need out of a homework help website before you commit. One added benefit is that the subscription covers over 80 other subjects, including AP classes, which can make it a good value if you need lots of help!
Best Site for STEM Homework Help: Studypool
- Best for: Science homework help
- Price: Varies; youâll pay for each question you submit
When it comes to science homework help, there arenât a ton of great resources out there. The best of the bunch is Studypool, and while it has great reviews, there are some downsides as well.
Letâs start with the good stuff. Studypool offers an interesting twist on the homework help formula. After you create a free account, you can submit your homework help questions, and tutors will submit bids to answer your questions. Youâll be able to select the tutorâand price pointâthat works for you, then youâll pay to have your homework question answered. You can also pay a small fee to access notes, lectures, and other documents that top tutors have uploaded.
The downside to Studypool is that the pricing is not transparent . Thereâs no way to plan for how much your homework help will cost, especially if you have lots of questions! Additionally, itâs not clear how tutors are selected, so youâll need to be cautious when you choose who youâd like to answer your homework questions.
What Are the Pros and Cons of Using Homework Help Sites?
Homework help websites can be a great resource if youâre struggling in a subject, or even if you just want to make sure that youâre really learning and understanding topics and ideas that youâre interested in. But, there are some possible drawbacks if you donât use these sites responsibly.
Weâll go over the goodâand the not-so-goodâaspects of getting online homework help below.
3 Pros of Using Homework Help Websites
First, letâs take a look at the benefits.
#1: Better Grades Beyond Homework
This is a big one! Getting outside help with your studies can improve your understanding of concepts that youâre learning, which translates into better grades when you take tests or write essays.
Remember: homework is designed to help reinforce the concepts you learned in class. If you just get easy answers without learning the material behind the problems, you may not have the tools you need to be successful on your class examsâŚor even standardized tests youâll need to take for college.
#2: Convenience
One of the main reasons that online homework help is appealing is because itâs flexible and convenient. You donât have to go to a specific tutoring center while theyâre open or stay after school to speak with your teacher. Instead, you can access helpful resources wherever you can access the internet, whenever you need them.
This is especially true if you tend to study at off hours because of your extracurriculars, work schedule, or family obligations. Sites that offer 24/7 tutoring can give you the extra help you need if you canât access the free resources that are available at your school.
#3: Variety
Not everyone learns the same way. Maybe youâre more of a visual learner, but your teacher mostly does lectures. Or maybe you learn best by listening and taking notes, but youâre expected to learn something just from reading the textbook .
One of the best things about online homework help is that it comes in a variety of forms. The best homework help sites offer resources for all types of learners, including videos, practice activities, and even one-on-one discussions with real-life experts.
This variety can also be a good thing if you just donât really resonate with the way a concept is being explained (looking at you, math textbooks!).
Not so fast. There are cons to homework help websites, too. Get to know them below!
3 Cons of Using Homework Help Websites
Now, letâs take a look at the drawbacks of online homework help.
#1: Unreliable Info
This can be a real problem. In addition to all the really good homework help sites, there are a whole lot of disreputable or unreliable sites out there. The fact of the matter is that some homework help sites donât necessarily hire people who are experts in the subjects theyâre talking about. In those cases, you may not be getting the accurate, up-to-date, and thorough information you need.
Additionally, even the great sites may not be able to answer all of your homework questions. This is especially true if the site uses an algorithm or chatbot to help studentsâŚor if youâre enrolled in an advanced or college-level course. In these cases, working with your teacher or school-provided tutors are probably your best option.
#2: No Clarification
This depends on the service you use, of course. But the majority of them provide free or low-cost help through pre-recorded videos. Watching videos or reading info online can definitely help you with your homework⌠but you canât ask questions or get immediate feedback if you need it .
#3: Potential For Scamming
Like we mentioned earlier, there are a lot of homework help websites out there, and lots of them are scams. The review comments we read covered everything from outdated or wrong information, to misleading claims about the help provided, to not allowing people to cancel their service after signing up.
No matter which site you choose to use, make sure you research and read reviews before you sign upâespecially if itâs a paid service!
When Does âHelpâ Become âCheatingâ?
Admittedly, whether using homework help websites constitutes cheating is a bit of a grey area. For instance, is it âhelpâ when a friend reads your essay for history class and corrects your grammar, or is it âcheatingâ? The truth is, not everyone agrees on when âhelpâ crosses the line into âcheating .â When in doubt, it can be a good idea to check with your teacher to see what they think about a particular type of help you want to get.
That said, a general rule of thumb to keep in mind is to make sure that the assignment you turn in for credit is authentically yours . It needs to demonstrate your own thoughts and your own current abilities. Remember: the point of every homework assignment is to 1) help you learn something, and 2) show what youâve learned.
So if a service answers questions or writes essays for you, thereâs a good chance using it constitutes cheating.
Hereâs an example that might help clarify the difference for you. Brainstorming essay ideas with others or looking online for inspiration is âhelpâ as long as you write the essay yourself. Having someone read it and give you feedback about what you need to change is also help, provided youâre the one that makes the changes later.
But copying all or part of an essay you find online or having someone write (or rewrite) the whole thing for you would be âcheating.â The same is true for other subjects. Ultimately, if youâre not generating your own work or your own answers, itâs probably cheating.
5 Tips for Finding the Best Homework Help Websites for You
Now that you know some of our favorite homework help websites, free and paid, you can start doing some additional research on your own to decide which services might work best for you! Here are some top tips for choosing a homework help website.
Tip 1: Decide How You Learn Best
Before you decide which site or sites youâre going to use for homework help, y ou should figure out what kind of learning style works for you the most. Are you a visual learner? Then choose a site that uses lots of videos to help explain concepts. If you know you learn best by actually doing tasks, choose a site that provides lots of practice exercises.
Tip 2: Determine Which Subjects You Need Help With
Just because a homework help site is good overall doesnât mean that itâs equally good for every subject. If you only need help in math, choose a site that specializes in that area. But if history is where youâre struggling, a site that specializes in math wonât be much help. So make sure to choose a site that you know provides high-quality help in the areas you need it most.
Tip 3: Decide How Much One-On-One Help You Need
This is really about cost-effectiveness. If you learn well on your own by reading and watching videos, a free site like Khan Academy is a good choice. But if you need actual tutoring, or to be able to ask questions and get personalized answers from experts, a paid site that provides that kind of service may be a better option.
Tip 4: Set a Budget
If you decide you want to go with a paid homework help website, set a budget first . The prices for sites vary wildly, and the cost to use them can add up quick.
Tip 5: Read the Reviews
Finally, itâs always a good idea to read actual reviews written by the people using these homework sites. Youâll learn the good, the bad, and the ugly of what the usersâ experiences have been. This is especially true if you intend to subscribe to a paid service. Youâll want to make sure that users think itâs worth the price overall!

Create and Edit Assignments
You are viewing Original Course View content
Your institution controls which tools are available in the Original Course View . Assignments are always available to instructors in the Ultra Course View .
You can create assignments alongside other content.
With assignments, you can create coursework and manage the grades and feedback for each student separately. You can create assignments in content areas, learning modules, lesson plans, and folders.
When you create an assignment, a Grade Center column is created automatically. From the Grade Center or Needs Grading page, you can see who has submitted their work and start grading. Students access their grades from their My Grades pages or the assignment's Review Submission History page.
You can also create a group assignment and release it to one or more groups in your course. Each group submits one collaborative assignment and all members receive the same grade. You can create a single assignment and assign it to all groups, or create several unique assignments and assign them to individual groups.
More on group assignments
Create an assignment
You can create assignments in content areas, learning modules, lesson plans, and folders.
In the Blackboard mobile app, assignment instructions for Original courses show after students begin an attempt.
Drag files from your computer to the "hot spot" in the Attach Files area. If your browser allows, you can also drag a folder of files. The files will upload individually. If the browser doesn't allow you to submit your assignment after you upload a folder, select Do not attach in the folder's row to remove it. You can drag the files individually and submit again.
You won't be able to drag files to upload if your institution uses an older version of Blackboard Learn.
You can use the file name or provide another name for the file.
- Optionally, select a Due Date . Assignments with due dates automatically show in the course calendar and in the To Do module. Submissions are accepted after this date but are marked late. If you donât want students to access an assignment after the due date, choose the appropriate display dates.
If you set the points possible to a non-whole number, letter grades may not be assigned correctly.
- Optionally, add a rubric . Expand the sections to make selections such as anonymous grading, how the grade is displayed, and the number of attempts. You can allow more than one attempt on an assignment.
- Make the assignment available when you're ready for students to access it. Select the appropriate options for availability, tracking, and display dates. Display dates don't affect an assignment's availability, only when it appears.
- Select Submit .

The following narrated video provides a visual and auditory representation of some of the information included on this page. For a detailed description of what is portrayed in the video, open the video on YouTube , navigate to More actions , and select Open transcript .â¨
Video: Create an assignment explains how to create an assignment.
Late assignments
When you assign a due date for an assignment, students can still submit attempts after the date passes. Submissions after the due date are marked late. If you penalize late submissions, inform students in the assignment instructions.
You can view the late label in these areas:
- Student's submission page in the grade panel
- Student's Grade Details page
- Needs Grading page
From the Grade Center, you can also view a list of all submissions with the Assignment File Download option in an assignment's menu. View who has submitted, submission dates, and the grading statuses. You can sort by date to easily see who submitted after the due date.
If you donât want students to access an assignment after the due date, choose the appropriate display dates. Inform students that you wonât accept submissions after the due date and the assignment will no longer be available.
Students see the late label after they make a submission after the due date.
Student assignment submission confirmations
When students submit assignments successfully, the Review Submission History page appears with information about their submitted assignments and a success message with a confirmation number. Students can copy and save this number as proof of their submissions and evidence for academic disputes. For assignments with multiple attempts, students receive a different number for each submission. If your institution has enabled email notifications for submission receipts, students will also receive an email with a confirmation number and other details for each submission.
You and your students won't be able to view confirmation numbers if your institution uses Blackboard Learn 9.1 Q4 2016 or earlier. Student email notifications and student access to receipt history were introduced in Blackboard Learn 9.1 Q2 2017.
You and your administrators have a retrievable record in the system even if an attempt, assignment, or student is later deleted. These records are maintained in the course and also retrievable after the archive and restore process.
You can access all of your students' confirmation numbers from the Grade Center. Open the Reports menu and select Submission Receipts .
On the Submission Receipts page, you can view information for each assignment, such as who submitted and when. Group assignments are also logged and the Submitter column lists who submitted for the group. In the Submission column, view if a student submitted a file or wrote the submission in the assignment's editor.
Use the menus at the top of the page to filter the items. In the second menu, select Not blank and leave the search box empty to show all of the submission receipts. Select a column heading to sort the items.
Edit, reorder, and delete assignments
You can edit, reorder, and delete your assignments. Change the order of assignments with the drag-and-drop function or the keyboard accessible reordering tool. For example, reorder the assignments to keep the current one at the top.
From an assignment's menu, select on option:
- Move an assignment to another location in your course. When you move an assignment, it's removed from its original location. You can't copy an assignment.
- Edit an assignment. If you change the instructions, students who have already made submissions will see the new instructions only on subsequent attempts.
- Apply release criteria, tracking, metadata, and review status.
More on options you can apply
Delete assignments
You can delete an assignment from a course area and if no student submissions exist, the Grade Center column is also deleted.
When you delete an assignment that has student submissions, you also delete all the submissions. You have two options:
- Preserve the scores in the Grade Center, but delete the assignment and all submissions. Though the scores remain in the Grade Center, you can't access the students' submissions again. The action is irreversible.
- Delete the assignment, the Grade Center column, all assigned grades, and all submissions. The action is irreversible.
Alternatively, make the gradable item unavailable in your course to preserve the submissions and the scores in the Grade Center.

The historically Black sororities and fraternities known as the Divine 9 have a long legacy of political activism, though itâs traditionally been nonpartisan. Now that Vice President Kamala Harris â a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, the countryâs oldest Black sorority â is at the top of the Democratic ticket, the organizations are mobilizing in a whole new way. And nowhere is that more evident or more consequential than in Georgia. Audie Cornish travels to Atlanta to sit down with two other AKA members: Democratic Congresswoman Nikema Williams and Maisha Land, creator of the viral Stroll to the Polls campaign.
